Jane trained as a primary and secondary teacher subsequently teaching French to Secondary age children and all subjects to children across the whole Primary age range. After the birth of her two sons she worked as a support teacher to children for whom English was a second language - later becoming Head of the Support Service of 35+ teachers. In 1989, she became an area coordinator of the government funded 'Language in the National Curriculum' project and joined the advisory service of Berkshire LEA with special responsibility for supporting the teaching of English in 300+ infant, junior, primary and middle schools. As well as providing advice and support to schools, running parents evenings and workshops, organising and presenting training and conferences to teachers and schools, Jane also moderated teacher assessments including SATs. She subsequently became an independent educational consultant working for Wokingham LEA, Windsor & Maidenhead LEA and Reading LEA, KS1 moderation manager and OFSTED inspector of schools. She has produced teacher support materials for the National Literacy Strategy and has been a consulting editor to a number of educational publishers including the BBC, Collins and Longmans. She has produced/co-produced numerous educational publications both in-house and for publishers such as Heinemann with publications distributed worldwide.

Jane was formerly a member of Berkshire English Advisory Team with responsibility for supporting and advising teachers and schools on the teaching of English, SATS and Teacher Assessment Moderation Manager, Educational Consultant and OFSTED Inspector of Schools. She has over thirty years teaching experience and over twenty years experience in supporting schools and training teachers in the teaching of reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, grammar and English as a second language (ESL).
