English Tuition in Reading
Tuition in Early Writing Skills in the Reading and the Berkshire area

For children at the early stages of writing and 'struggling' or 'reluctant' writers'. Age 4+.

Designed to support young children who are at the beginning/early stages of writing or older children who are 'struggling' with the development of early writing skills. Teaching strategies are used that place emphasis on the interrelationship between reading, writing, spelling and handwriting.

Following initial assessments, children receive a series of planned lessons that cater for their individual needs. Depending on the child's level of development, lessons focus on encouraging children to:-

-read and write simple sentences using capital letters and full stops, e.g.
I love my mummy.
I like sweets.
Tom went to the shop.

-make use of simple adjectives and verbs
The big dog ran into the garden.

During these early stages, great emphasis is placed on developing children's confidence as writers which includes focus basic handwriting and spelling skills. They are also encouraged to 'have a go at writing' with a specific purpose and audience clearly identified, e.g. a 'letter' to Santa, granny or a friend.

As children master the ability to construct simple sentences they are taught and encouraged to-

-write for a range of purposes for a range of audiences
-write in a range of forms using simple features and characteristics of different text types
-write simple sentences with two clauses linked by connectives
-write simple sentences with subordinate clauses
-make use of more 'adventurous' adjectives
-make use of simple adverbs
-
make use of simple prepositions
-
spell accurately simple words and make attempts to spell more complex words
-
make accurate use of simple punctuation.
