English Tuition in Reading
Tuition in Writing Skills (KS2+) in the Reading and the Berkshire area
For children who are competent users of basic writing conventions/grammatical structures. Age 7+
Building upon early writing skills, lessons are designed to extend children who are competent users of basic writing conventions and grammatical structures. Teaching strategies are used that place emphasis on the relationship between reading, writing, grammar and spelling.
Following initial assessments, children receive a series of planned lessons that cater for their individual needs. Depending on the child's level of development, lessons focus on such aspects as:-
Features & Characteristics of Texts
-Further developing children's understanding of and ability to use features and characteristics of a range of text types/forms including stories, explanations, recounts, instructions, persuasive writing/advertisements, information including leaflets and posters and to select the appropriate form for the intended purpose and audience.
Construction of Texts
- Devleloping children's ability to plan their writing, proof read, edit and evaluate their work.
- Using IT and educational software to develop a variety of texts including leaflets, posters, etc.
- Making use of paragraphs
Grammar, Sentence Structure & Vocabulary
-Developing children's knowledge and understanding of parts of speech.
- Modelling use of more complex sentence structures including sentences with subordinate and multiple clauses joined by a range of connectives.
-Encouraging use of a range of more complex words and techniques to stimulate the interest of the reader and enhance meaning such as:-
-use of more complex adjectives
-expanded noun phrases
-more complex adverbs and the use of adverbial clauses and phrases
-use of alliteration, rhyming words, proverbs and other techniques
-variation in sentence length
-Teaching strategies to facilitate accurate spelling of more complex words.
-Teaching advanced punctuation.
